Real CheerLEADING
October 11, 2019
The West Hardin Spill has interviewed Kimberlann Gilley, a freshman, for a cheerleader feature.
“Cheering is fun, it takes a little bit of time to get used to different things that you have to learn, but, “I like it.”
“Yes I did go to cheer camp. How long was the camp? “ The cheer camp was like 4 days. How did you like cheer camp? “I personally like cheer camp.”U.C. cheerleaders are faster so we were not used to doing things very fast. I personally had a great time there.
Whenever I asked Kimberlann what made her want to do cheer? Kimberlann answered when I was in elementary school I was not doing it. I just seen the varsity cheerleaders and that they were known as the cool studs, and just how pretty the all are, “I wanted to be like them, I wanted to be pretty and beautiful and seen as a model for little girls.
Did your cheering ever get in the way of home life or school? Kimberlann states “It definitely gets in the way of my sleep schedule.” They have practices Monday, Wednesday, and most Thursdays at 6:15 in the morning. She states so “yes sometimes it is hard.”
As I go on I ask her when she cheers is it ever stressful? She answers starting off it was especially when I was brand new, and because I really didn’t know what I was doing. Now that I have a better understanding of cheer it is not as stressful.
I asked Kimberlann what are her goals she wants to accomplish in her cheering? I am brand new in the stunts. “ I want my group to be able to do stunts quick and easy. “Just feels like an accomplishment to do the thing we are trying right.”
I also ask her what does she think her best qualities are in cheering? Whenever I learn a new dance or routine and I know it. I am really good at keeping up with the beat.
What do you think you need to work on not really so much bad but not so good? My jumps! All the way my jumps. “My jumps are horrible.”
Thank you for your time, I have no more further questions.
