West Hardin’s Homecoming is just around the corner, and for some students,  they will be a part of it. One of the students appearing on Homecoming Court this year is Senior Payton Hughes.

Many people hope to be on Homecoming Court and see it as an exciting opportunity to represent their school.

“I was very excited not only because I get to dress up and look pretty, but I get to do it with my best friends for my last year of high school,” Hughes said.

For Hughes, this isn’t her first time being on Homecoming Court.

“I have been on Homecoming Court for three years now,” Hughes said.

Hughes also participates in many extracurricular activities after the school day.

“I play volleyball, cheer, basketball, softball, and I run track,” Hughes said.

Out of all of them, Hughes says if she had to choose one activity, she would choose to play volleyball.

“I would play volleyball because I’m very passionate about it, it really has gotten me through a lot of hard times in my life,” Hughes said.

A lot of people have a certain person that they aspire to be like when they’re older.

“One of the people I look up to is my mom. She goes through so much but is still there for all of us kids,” Hughes said.

Hughes has her fair share of favorite memories that she’s made throughout her high school career.

“My most memorable moment of high school is when we got first in district last year in volleyball after the hard year we had. Our community really supported us throughout the whole season,” Hughes said.

After being in high school for almost four years, her outlook on high school has changed completely.

“My freshman-junior year I was so ready to get out of high school and graduate, but now that I will be graduating this year, my whole mindset has changed. I wish I would have cherished every moment I had in all four years of high school,” Hughes said.
