Sophie Enloe is a junior in high school and she is making her way to the top in UIL. She competed in feature writing, editorial writing, and copy editing.

Enloe placed first place in feature writing, third place in editorial, and fifth place in copy editing. She will be competing in regionals on April 23 during spring break.

“Last year, I placed in News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, and Copy Editing at the district. I advanced in some of my events, but I didn’t make it past regionals,” Enloe said. ”This year I placed first in Feature Writing, third in Editorial Writing, and fifth in Copy Editing at the district.”

Enloe has been competing in events since her sophomore year.

”I would have completed my freshman year, but there wasn’t an opportunity for that because of COVID-19,” Enloe said.

Sophie has other hobbies than just newspaper writing though.

“My favorite things to do outside of school are sleeping, playing video games, randomly baking, and drawing.”

Taking a newspaper class helped Enloe with writing articles and editing skills.

“Newspaper class helped me learn how to write articles and compete for UIL Journalism. It was hard at first, but it was fine once I learned the AP rules and the formats for the different article types,” Enloe said. ”I think that anyone who wants to compete in UIL Journalism should definitely take a newspaper class.”
